Re-elected President Barack Obama celebrates 4 more years of office
“Thanks you. Thank you so much. Tonight, more than 200 years after a former colony won the right to determine its own destiny, the task of perfecting our union moves forward,” newly elected President Barack Obama said within hours of being reelected for a second term.
The first African-American President continues his presidency. President Barack Obama goes into his second term making new promises.
His strongest promises are the economy, healthcare, education, and military.
Obama says he wants to support higher education more.
“I want by the end of this decade, more of our citizens hold college degrees than any nation on Earth,” Obama said. “In the 21st century, higher education cannot be a luxury; it is an economic imperative that every American should be able to afford. And we’re going to make that happen”
President Obama plans to hire new teachers, especially in math and science. He wants to help two million people get a chance to go to college. His goal is to make sure that every young person can afford college, that’s why he plans to bring tuition down.
Obama continues strong with “Obamacare.”
He will continue to cut the deficit of healthcare instead of charging seniors more. His plan is to reduce healthcare costs overall.
According to Obama hospitals should make sure that they’re using health IT – information technologies – to do a better job instead of having all kinds of administrative costs and paperwork. Therefore people don’t have to pay incredible amounts of money for multiple tests.
“I will never, I will never turn Medicare into a voucher,” Obama said. “No American should have to spend their golden years at the mercy of insurance companies.”
He also continues to fight for women’s reproductive rights.
“I want women to control their own health choices, just like I want my daughters to have the same opportunities as your sons,” Obama said.
Ending the war in Afghanistan by 2014 is another big goal Obama is promising.
Obama plans to use a big part of his economic plan along with his military plan He wants to cut back on half of the money spent on military warfare and use it to rebuild our country.
“Let’s use it to put people back to work, rebuild our roads, our runways, our ports, laying broadband lines into rural communities, updating our networks,” Obama said. “Let’s create a veterans jobs corps, so we can put our returning heroes back to work as cops or firefighters in communities we need them the most.”
And last but not least Obama promises big things for jobs and the economy.
He believes highly in insourcing. He wants to take away tax breaks for companies shipping overseas and give them to companies that are here investing in American workers. He also wants to give more Americans the chance to learn skills they need to compete.
“We’ve got to invest in our workforce,” Obama said.
These are just a few prominent promises the president marches into his second term with, promises the country hopes to see the president follow through with.
